History of the profession
The year 1802, when V. Petrov discovered the effect of an electric arc, which creates such a high temperature between two carbon electrodes that it allows to melt steel, cast iron, aluminum, copper, brass, plastics and other materials, can be considered the date of the appearance of the profession. A considerable period of time has passed since the discovery of the electric arc and its use. But a century later, the method of joining metals using an electric arc made a revolutionary breakthrough in the field of industry and construction. The world learned new types and methods of welding, which became a mass technology for joining materials.
Professional qualification: electric and gas welder of the III category
Tasks and duties. Performs manual arc and plasma welding of medium complexity parts, assemblies and structures from carbon steels and simple parts from structural steels, non-ferrous metals and alloys in all spatial positions of the weld, except for the ceiling. Performs manual arc oxygen cutting, planing parts of medium complexity from low-carbon, alloyed, special steels, cast iron and non-ferrous metals in various positions. Welds worked simple tools, parts from carbon and structural steels.
Must know: the construction of electric welding machines and welding chambers, which he uses; requirements for welds and surfaces after oxygen cutting
(planing); requirements and meaning of coating electrodes; main types of welding inspection; methods of selecting electrode brands depending on steel brands; the causes of internal stresses and deformations in the products being welded and measures to prevent them.
Qualification requirements. Complete general secondary education and vocational education without work experience requirements or complete general secondary education and vocational training on the job. Advanced qualification and work experience as an electric welder of the 2nd grade - at least 1 year.
Mastering the basic skills of manual arc welding with covered electrodes of assemblies and structures made of carbon steels and simple parts made of structural steels.
Despite the widespread use of various fusion welding methods, the largest number of welded structures are made by manual arc welding. Due to the simplicity of the equipment, unpretentiousness and ease of use, manual arc welding with covered electrodes has become widely used in construction and repair work.
Semi-automatic welding and surfacing of simple and medium-complexity parts, nodes of structures made of structural steels, non-ferrous metals in the lower and vertical positions of the seam and alloys in all spatial positions of the weld, except for the ceiling.
Today, semi-automatic welding is in demand on the labor market due to its high productivity, it is widely used in mechanical engineering, correction of defects after casting of parts.
Gas welding of simple and medium complexity parts, structural assemblies and pipelines from structural steels, non-ferrous metals in the lower and vertical positions of the seam.

According to the results of mastering each level of qualification, the Interregional Center for Professional Retraining of Servicemen released into the reserve conducts a State qualification certification, which includes a test of theoretical and practical knowledge of the 2nd and 3rd grades in the profession of an electric and gas welder. A graduate of the Interregional Center, who has successfully passed the qualification certification, is assigned the educational and qualification level of "skilled worker" in the acquired profession of the corresponding grade (category) and is issued a diploma of the state standard. A person who has mastered a vocational training course and successfully passed a qualification certification is assigned the educational and qualification level "skilled worker" from the acquired profession of the corresponding grade (category) and is issued a state model certificate on the assignment (increase) of worker qualifications. The educational (working) time of the student during the period of industrial practice is established in accordance with the legislation and the operating regime of the enterprise,

According to the results of obtaining each professional qualification, a state or intermediate (staged) qualification attestation is conducted, which involves the assessment of acquired competences and is determined by the following parameters: "knows - does not know"; "can - can't". Upon completion of training, each graduate must be able to independently perform all work provided for by the qualification characteristics, technological conditions and norms established in the industry.
